tripod is the acronym for ASP One's Triple Play System. Triple Play means integrated TV, Internet and telephony but until now, customers have had to purchase all three services from one provider via one line. The Triple Play infrastructure is expanding at a very slow pace, and at present it is limited to the major centers of population in Germany. There are various other problems apart from the lack of availability:
- The entire communications infrastructure is dependent on one single provider
- The infrastructure is susceptible to faults
- Satellite TV is not integrated
Tripod is a Triple Play System that integrates the lines and communication technologies already present in households into one system, with no changes whatsoever to the infrastructure. This system opens up the possibility of Triple Play that goes far beyond the functionality offered by the telecoms companies.
